Dear Valued Taxi Customer :
If you are experiencing “poor” taxi service the principal reason is as follows : We are required by regulations to answer all requests for service by our regulator the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) of which taxis are sub-division. In recent years we have regularly submitted our statistical reports to the Taxi Division. The reports clearly show that our capacity (number of taxis) and demand (people calling for service) do not match. Overall our experience is that we have more demand than capacity every day and some days much more than others. We have approached all of the regulators repeatedly and asked them to issue more taxi permits to meet demand. Last month they finally responded by issuing an RFP (Request for Proposal) asking for a study to determine just how many taxis should be permitted to operate in San Francisco. The study is expected to be completed in two years. If you can’t wait two years for service please contact the SFMTA Taxi Department, contact the SFMTA Board of Directors, and contact the SF Board of Supervisors.
